West Virginia Wesleyan Women's Basketball will host the No. 5 ranked Glenville State Lady Pioneers on Saturday at 2 p.m. for Senior Day. The Bobcats flirted with an upset on the road at Glenville earlier in the season, only losing 61-55.
GLENVILLE STATE LADY PIONEERS
The Lady Pioneers enter (23-2) overall and (17-2) in MEC play. GSU is on an eight-game winning streak, previously defeating Davis & Elkins on Wednesday 86-58.
Glenville State ranks 2nd in the country and MEC in Scoring Offense at 88.8 PPG. The Lady Pioneers also rank 2nd in the league in Team FG% (44%), Team 3PFGs Made (10.2 AVG/G), Offensive Rebounds (15.2 ORPG) and Steals (15.8 SPG). GSU turns their opponents over more than anyone else in the country, forcing 28.0 turnovers per game.
Breanna Campbell ranks 7th in the MEC and leads Glenville State in scoring at 17.4 PPG. Mickayla Perdue sits behind Campbell in the MEC and on the team, averaging 17.1 PPG. Campbell is 5th in the league in FG% (51%) and 2nd in assists (4.4 APG). Hya Haywood is 3rd in the conference in steals with 2.2 SPG.
Kim Stephens is in her seventh season leading the Lady Pioneers, posting a (181-23) overall record and (129-12) conference record. Stephens is coming off a historic 2022 season, winning the NCAA Division II National Championship and posting a (35-1) record on the season. She was awarded the WBCA National Coach of the Year, MEC Women's Sports Coach of the Year, and the Furfai Award for the State's top College Coach.
WEST VIRGINIA WESLEYAN BOBCATS
The Bobcats enter (5-17) overall and (4-15) in MEC play. Wesleyan completed a season sweep of Concord on Wednesday, going on the road and winning 64-60.
WVWC is shooting 30% from deep, good enough for 6th in the conference. On the defensive end, the Bobcats rank 4th in Scoring Defense at 69.2 PPG allowed.
Emma Witt had another double-double against Concord with 23 points and 11 rebounds, raising her team-leading averages to 15.5 PPG and 6.6 RPG. Daveona Hatchell and Shelby Genes are both averaging 8.7 PPG to aid the offense.
