City Hall News: Week of February 13, 2023

Meeting next week are council’s Public Safety Committee,  and the Elkins Parks and Recreation Commissions. Council meets Thursday. 

The Public Safety Committee will hear reports from the city’s public safety officials at 10 a.m. on Monday.

The Elkins Parks and Recreation Commission meets at the Phil Gainer Community Center Wednesday at 5 p.m. to discuss the NFC Fitness Court, and the Steward Ave. property as a potential site for a pocket park.

Council meets Thursday at 7 p.m. The agenda has not yet been posted and may be updated through Tuesday. Current items include the first reading of an ordinance changing the zoning map for parcels along N. Randolph and Spruce Street in response to citizen requests, changes to the Municipal Court Judge compensation, and a PSC Order Concerning Whitmer Water Association, Inc. There will also be a presentation by the Randolph County Development Authority.

The Elkins Tree Board will be sponsoring a Winter Walk on Saturday, February 18th at 10 a.m. at Glendale Park. The public will learn how to identify trees by bark, twigs, shape, and fruit during this free workshop led by tree board forester Linda Burke. Participants should meet at the first pavilion at the entrance of Glendale Park. Dress warmly and bring binoculars. Check Elkins Friends of Trees Facebook page for any weather-related updates.
