West Virginia Wesleyan Men's Basketball hits the road to face Glenville State on Saturday evening. The Bobcats lone conference victory last season was against the Pioneers.
GLENVILLE STATE PIONEERS
The Pioneers enter (9-6) overall and (5-4) in MEC play. GSU is coming off of a road win at Davis & Elkins 84-81 in dramatic fashion. Glenville enters winners in three of their last four games.
GSU leads the MEC Offensive Rebounds (14.5 AVG/G) and are 2nd in Team Rebounds (40.9 AVG/G). They have taken care of the ball, sitting 2nd in the MEC in Turnover Margin at 3.4. The Pioneers also rank in the Top-4 in Scoring Offense (88.3 AVG/G) and Scoring Margin (8.9).
Glenville features four scorers averaging double-figures, led by Jordan "Turbo" Smith at 19.0 PPG. Smith ranks 4th in the MEC in scoring and assists (4.3 AVG/G). Jacquez Yow (15.0 PPG) and Freddie Word (14.8 PPG) also rank in the Top-15 in scoring. Harrison Eghan brings a strong presence to the middle, pulling down 6.7 rebounds per outing.
Head Coach Justin Caldwell is in his 5th season as the leader of the program. Caldwell previously spent three seasons as an assistant at GSU and two seasons as an assistant California (Pa.). After his short stint at Cal (Pa.), he took over as HC of the Pioneers. Caldwell was an assistant at GSU during the 2015 MEC Championship run and NCAA Tournament berth. Caldwell played collegiate basketball at WVWC for three seasons where he a WVIAC Second Team selection as a junior before transferring to Glenville State for his senior season.
WEST VIRGINIA WESLEYAN
The Bobcats enter (1-12) overall and (1-8) in MEC play. Wesleyan lost at home to Concord 78-64 on Wednesday night to bring their losing streak to six games.
Wesleyan ranks 5th in the league in Steals and 7th in Offensive Rebounds. The Bobcats sit at the bottom of the league in a pair of statistical categories.
Darius Green is coming off his 25-point performance, sitting at 8th in the MEC in scoring at 16.7 PPG. Green also leads the Bobcats in rebounds (6.6 RPG) and assists (2.1 APG). Tyler Slone continues to grow his average, putting in 12.9 PPG and shooting 40% from three.
