Hatchell scored a season-high 19 points versus Bluefield State | West Virginia Wesleyan College Athletic Department

The West Virginia Wesleyan (1-7, 0-6) women's basketball fell to Bluefield State (7-5) on Thursday (Dec. 15) in Bluefield, W.Va.

WVWC Leaders
Daveona Hatchell had a team-leading 19 points and nine rebounds. Courtney Wilfong passed a team-leading three assists and scored nine points. Laila Calhoun brought down six rebounds. Imani Jackson and Emma Witt each had five rebounds, 

Inside the First Half
Bluefield State began the first quarter on a 5-0 run before Hatchell put the Bobcats on the scoreboard with a layup and trailed 5-2 with 4:19 left in the opening frame. Rori Cox extended the Big Blue lead to 11-4 with a shot behind the arc. Courtney Wilfong drilled a three as time expired in the first quarter and the Bobcats trailed 11-7. 
 
The Bobcats opened the second quarter on a 4-0 run to tie the score 11-11. The Big Blue quickly responded with a three on the other end and led 14-11 before a three from Shelby Genes and a layup by Hatchell gave Wesleyan their first lead of the night 16-14. Bluefield State ended the quarter on a 14-4 run and led 28-18 at the half.  

Inside the Second Half
The Bobcats fired out of the gates to begin the second half after a three from Hatchell and a layup from Emma Witt they trailed 28-23. The Big Blue got their offense firing on all cylinders propelling them to a 10-2 run to extend the lead to 38-25. At the end of the third period, WVWC trailed 39-28. 
 
Hatchell continued her dominant performance in the fourth quarter scoring 10 of her 19 points in the fourth. She had back-to-back three-pointers that cut the WVWC deficit to seven, 47-40. Bluefield State would go on to win the game 50-45. 

Up Next
The Bobcats will travel to Salem, W.Va., on Monday (Jan. 2) to take on Salem in a non-conference matchup that begins at 5:30 p.m.
