Shop Local this Holiday Season in #RandolphWV

The sweet sound of holiday music playing in the background. The brisk feel of the winter wind. The sight of Christmas lights and décor in store fronts. The taste of delicious festive treats and pastries. The aroma of roasted coffee. We invite you to stroll through the streets of our charming downtowns, breathe the fresh mountain air and enjoy shopping local in Elkins and around Randolph County. Local artists’ handmade products are visible in every small town. Whether you are looking for a piece of West Virginia artwork, outdoor gear, pottery or jewelry, or you’re truly not sure what to buy, a gift card or local gift is always the best option. Here are a few ideas for your holiday shopping:

We may not have the Mall of America, but downtown Elkins has some great shopping, especially when it comes to local specialty shops.  The Wyld Lyfe Apothecary has many products dedicated to nourish the mind, body, and soul. From herbal tea, incense, gemstones and crystals to jewelry, handmade candles, and a vast network of local vendors – Wyld Lyfe Apothecary is a must-stop. Looking for unique, exceptional gifts? The Delmonte Market is another stop for gift ideas for any occasion (including treating yourself to a delicious latte or ice cream). They have everything from jewelry, clothing, art, houseware items, and much more. It’s hard to leave without finding something you can’t live without!

Located on the busiest intersection of downtown Elkins, the Elkins Sewing Center is the oldest, largest sewing supplier in the area. Find fabrics for outdoor activities, home décor, and clothing. There isn’t anything much better than a handmade gift to surprise your loved ones. You’d be taking one-of-a-kind to a whole different level. Artists At Work showcases the work of numerous regional artists. At this shop, you’ll find beautiful pottery, artisan jewelry, woodworking décor, paintings, and framed photography – all hand-crafted by the artists who help staff the cooperative gallery. One of our newest shops is The Mossy Merchant – where you’ll find eclectic art, unique antiques, vintage clothing, and more at this fun store that will brighten your holiday shopping experience.  We can’t forget to mention buying for our furry friends – Fancy Paws has a variety of toys for your favorite pet!

These are just a few of our cute shops in downtown, but make sure to widen your travel and check out a few others around the county. Serendipity is the perfect place for primitive décor, baby and children toys and clothing, and exclusive Vera Bradley bags.  And, Historic Beverly Antique Mall, another antique store in the county, has two floors of books, vintage items of all sorts including clothing, and a variety of antiques.

Have an outdoorsy person in your family? That’s ok! We have the stores for them too. Joey’s Bike Shop in downtown Elkins has an assortment of bikes for any avid rider. From gravel bikes, mountain bikes, and hybrids, they can get you ready to roll. Not only do they have bikes, but they also have the gear that goes along with them. Everyone eventually needs a new helmet, socks, gloves, or tools for their stocking. Middle Mountain Sporting Goods is also a great place to check out gear. They have the largest stock of fishing poles, tackle, bait, and waders in the area. Not only do they carry fishing gear, they also take pride in their hunting gear selection. From guns to camo, you’re sure to find what you need. Another locally owned and operated outdoor store, is P&M Outdoors. They carry all of your hunting and trapping needs. Feed, fishing gear, a large selection of guns and ammo, you’ll be able to get the hunter in your family taken care of.

Other fishing shops in the area are The Rusty Spinner, located in Beverly, and Elk Springs Resort & Fly Shop, tucked away in Monterville, which is the largest fly shop in West Virginia. A different kind of gift could be treating your loved one to a guided fishing trip or private lesson! Perhaps, you want to go big for the holidays? Elkins Motorsports has a huge showroom of motorcycles, ATV’s, dirtbikes, side x sides, scooters, and other powersports gear. There is nothing like giving the gift of a lifetime to someone!

Maybe you are shopping for someone who always resorts to the “surprise me” option. We can definitely relate to how hard it is to buy for some folks. That’s why we suggest a gift certificate to a local restaurant. Whether it’s a gift card to our local coffee shops, like TipTop or the Crossing Coffeebar, or a custom cooler, merchandise, or adult beverage sold at Big Timber Brewing or Still Hollow Spirits, we have so many options that you are bound to find something for even the pickiest of individuals.

We encourage you to shop local during the holiday season. Our independent, locally owned and operated businesses need you now more than ever. From the charming shops and galleries to our locally-owned restaurants and coffee shops, it’s time for you to shop small and support local businesses this holiday season in Elkins and Randolph County.
