The West Virginia Wesleyan women's soccer team (4-9-1, 4-7-1) fell at home to Charleston (8-6, 8-4) on Sunday (Oct. 16) afternoon at Cebe Ross Field. Madison Hansen's penalty kick goal was all the Golden Eagles needed to come away with a road victory.
UC controlled the first half and did not surrender a shot to WVWC. The Golden Eagles owned 61% of the possession total in the opening half. WVWC goalkeeper Ally Moore made four saves and kept the ball out of the net. The two teams remained scoreless at the midway point of the game.
Ava Badallo opened up the second half and struck a shot on goal in the 48th minute. Golden Eagles' netminder Jordan Maynard made the play and kept WVWC off the scoreboard. In the 63rd minute, Moore attempted to play a cross and bat the ball away from the 18. Moore collided with a UC player, and a foul in the penalty box was called on Moore. Hansen lined up and converted the PK to put Charleston on top. Chloe Ramirez fired a pair of shots in the final 10 minutes of action, including one on target. Wesleyan was not able to crack the UC defense and find the equalizer.
WVWC women's soccer will be back in action on Wednesday (Oct. 19) for a matchup versus West Virginia State. Kickoff is set for 7:15 p.m. at Buckhannon-Upshur High School.
