59 percent of undergraduates are residents of West Virginia, and 35 percent are residents of other states. 6 percent are citizens of foreign countries.
The undergraduate student body is comprised mostly of students who identify as white (75 percent) and Black or African American (10 percent).
The school admitted 70 percent of the 2,159 students who applied for fall 2018. Of those who were admitted, 21 percent enrolled.
